Standing Firm!!

January 24, 2012

“(But I know)
You’ve got to stand for something;
Or you’re gonna fall for anything.
You’ve gotta stand right up for somethin’;
Or you’re gonna fall….for anything.” (John Mellencamp, ©1985, Scarecrow)

How many times in our lives do we cave into pressure from outside influences, my friends? How many times do we say we are going to make a stand and then when push comes to shove…we buckle under, cry and whimper, and run away with our tails tucked between our legs?

John Mellencamp sang about this very subject and he really hit home with the words; he knew what we all go through in life when there are big decisions to make and tough stands to take. Sometimes we alienate our so-called “friends”; and when push comes to shove they fall away from our lives and then we are left to actually wonder whether or not they were truly as close as we thought they were. Other times, when we are backed into a corner and there is no where else to turn, we rely on our own devices to see us out of the situation…and we fall right on our faces, bloodied and bruised.

Folks, taking a stand can be tenuous and can make you feel like you’re at the breaking point; yet, there is a way to stand firm without compromising our positions and make a valid point. And that’s to be like a F.R.O.G.

Yes, you heard me right. Be a F.R.O.G. In other words, Fully Rely On God to get you through ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that is a trial or tribulation. Trust in the One who knows what you are going through and who has made a way for you to deal with all the junk that life throws at us. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  Also, in John 14:27 it says this: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

When we fully rely on God to take care of those things which are burdening us, we can be totally committed to making (and taking) stands in our lives that are Godly and Christ-centered instead of self-centered, and we’ll feel at peace with our decisions. And, when we “hop” onto the path of Word discovery instead of world discovery, then we can trust 1,000% in what God can do in our lives.

So, brothers and sisters, stand FIRM! Stand FAST! ‘Cause help is on its way! If you feel F.R.O.G.gy, then jump in and make a stand for Jesus! It will change your life for the better.

Be blessed!!

The Cell

January 17, 2012

How many of us have felt like we’ve been trapped in a “prison cell” during our lives? Maybe we’ve been in bondage to drugs, booze, sexual immorality, cussing, abuse…folks, whether we choose to believe it or not, there is a laundry list of things that the world entices us with; and too often times we fall into that age-old trap of sin.

Our own individual “cells” take on many forms; and even after we give our lives to Christ Jesus and become new creations (those who are called Christians), we can still fall back into that same pattern. We try to justify our actions with what the Galatian church was doing in the New Testament: they wanted to keep the old “laws” like circumcision as a way of reverting back to their legalistic ways before Christ came into the world. Paul reminded them very simply that no matter how much they attempted to trust the “old” ways, there was only One Way…and that was through Jesus Christ. The people in Galatia, without realizing it, were walking back into their own “cells” and slamming the door behind them!

My friends, Christ came to give us freedom, not a death sentence behind  cold iron bars! He came to unlock the chains of slavery and deliver us from the bondage of sin; He came with the only key each of us needed for our own dank, cold, musty, and filthy “cells.” The enemy tries to keep us in those places, but Jesus came to give us life more abundantly. (John 10:10).

We all need to remember that we are no longer living in the past, and we need not revert to our past. We are free to walk out of our prison “cells” and experience the fullness of life that is in Christ. We no longer are held to the old standards of our past life in the world, but we are held to a new standard: to love one another!

Are you ready to walk out of your “cell” into the SONshine of a new life today?

Be blessed!!

2012 – The Year of a Great Awakening for God’s People

January 2, 2012

Here we are, my friends: it’s now January of 2012, and we are on the cusp of a new year, full of many challenges and adventures in the Lord Jesus!

This servant has felt that as we neared this special year, that there was going to be a great movement for God that would overwhelm our communities, our area, our nation, and our world. And now that the countdown is over and we are, indeed, into 2012, that feeling hasn’t diminished; in fact, it has grown stronger and stronger.

Folks, as Christians, we need to be ready to stand firm and strong when God calls us into action…and He WILL be asking each of us to step out in faith in these upcoming months. A massive spiritual stirring is prevalent in several of our area churches, and revival is but a breath away. We must be prayed up, fired up, and have our spiritual armor on when our names are called for the front lines of battle as God gets ready to awaken that slumbering giant known as the Church.

Brothers and sisters, 2012 will be a period of time that will go down in history as the Year of Boldness for Christianity. It’s time for ALL of us who love the Lord to get busy for Him!

This is our call to arms…are you packing the Gospel Gun of Truth?
